Unlock your bootloader with Motorola’s Unlock My Device
After what feels like years of waiting, Motorola has launched "Unlock My Device," a legitimate way for Motorola brand Android users to unlock the bootloader of their device, allowing for the installation of third-party software.
In order to easily flash custom ROMs or other similar third-party software to your Android device, one of the first steps you have to take is unlocking your bootloader. Motorola is notorious for making that next to impossible. Different hacking methods have been introduced for unlocking Motorola bootloaders in the past, but they should all be unnecessary now. Motorola promised that they'd provide a relatively simple bootloader unlocking solution, and today, they've done just that.
By installing the Android SDK, some Motorola drivers and following a handful of directions, Motorola's Unlock My Device service will unlock the bootloader of your device.
Checking the list of supported devices right now returns an error page. So unfortunately, we don't know what devices will be able to be unlocked using Unlock My Device. We'll be keeping a close eye on the service as more information is made available. Keep your fingers crossed that Verizon's big list of Droid devices make the cut.
